Mexico is the cradle of muralism. The trend came about at the beginning of the 20th century on the wave of the Mexican revolution, as an attempt to discover an identity in art. One link with the roots of muralism is the work of the Mexican artist Alejandro Sanchez Vigil, who portrays dreamscapes of reconciliation between Aztecs and conquistadors. In the nineties, the word ‘mural’ was just taking its place in the Polish language and in everyday use you would often hear the word ‘murales’, taken directly from Spanish.
