Monumental Art Festival

monumental

Monumental Art Festival is a regular event organized by the year 2016, which until June 2011 was a festival accompanying the candidacy of Gdańsk and the Metropolis for European Capital of Culture title Apart from a European dimension, Monumental Art is also an initiative with important local priorities. One of its aims is to visually invigorate a uniformed space of a tower block district and to enable its inhabitants a daily contact with art. A series of four thematic wall paintings are planned to be created every year. They are going to add up to the collection combining mural paintings and graffiti art together. The festival’s main purpose is to create an integrated gallery of monumental art. It is going to be the biggest European collection of large-format paintings, created by outstanding artists from all over the world. The whole event is pioneered by Piotr Szwabe (Pisz) – a great painter and culture animator.
