Two murals painted in the foyer of the Faculty of Biology link the past and the present of the biological sciences. The first was based on an 1866 image illustrating the “Tree of Life” by  Ernst Haeckel. The second is a contemporary “Tree of Life” based on molecular biological research by Carl R. Woese from 1990. Different artistic mediums were employed in the murals – gilding in the first and UV paint in the second.
