Alternative walks around Gdansk are getting more and more popular each year – the summary
14 October 2015Over 4 600 people have participated in this year’s alternative walks organised by the CCI! In total, nearly 300 excursions were organised. The Local Guides have shown tourists and the citizens round the monumental art collection in Zaspa, the mysterious Biskupia Górka, Dolne Miasto – which is getting prettier every day – and the newly-discovered Nowy Port. Women are not forgotten, and the walks included the herstories told in Gdansk Shipyard, and the Old Town and the Main Town.
The murals of Zaspa attracted 818 people participating in 60 walks.
Katarzyna Michałowska, a Local Guide for Zaspa, talks about the monumental art collection walks. ‘This year, I’ve had more visitors that last year. I have seen people marvel at the new murals painted during the last edition of the Monumental Art festival. They liked the magnitude, the creativity, and the message. Whenever I approach the mural by the Uruguayan collective Licuado, I meet the residents of the place, who remember the artists’ determination and precision. Many people have fond memories of the joyful painters. I can see the residents of Zaspa have got used to our big groups walking around the neighbourhood’.
